An important moment

One weekend my friend Brian and I met up with some friends at one of the fraternity houses at our university. We wound up in some guy’s room. The guy hosted us graciously, talked about economics and made us a couple vodka cranberries. There was this bottle of bourbon on his dresser right next to where I was sitting that I wanted to try.

“That’s mine, bro,” he said. “Help yourself to the vodka though.”

Brian and I drank and the group talked about zombie apocalypse scenarios and the latest Doctor Who. Then the host left for a few minutes to go check something out in the hallway.

I took the bourbon and poured some into my empty cup. Brian held out his and I poured him some too. Then we just drank and smiled in unspoken camaraderie.
